Whole School Duathlon and Triathlon

Well done everyone!
I was worried about the weather, but we had already put off the duathlon because of the heavy rain last week.

You are all such good sports.

I can't believe how tough you all are and how many of you swam in the school pool!
Thank you Mr. Pike for warming the pool up.

Brilliant supporting, great team-spirit and fantastic competition!  Definitely some good candidates for the GOLDEN SHOE. Make a nomination here CLICK

Duathlon Challenge - Swim and Run
On the day the course will be marked by chalk and cones as well as being marshalled by the HOUSE CAPTAINS.
Distances:
Junior School - 1 loop of the pool + 1 lap of the running course
Middle school - 2 loops of the pool + 2 laps of the running course
Senior School - 2 loops of the pool + 3 laps of the running course

Instructions For the Duathlon
Year 3 children put a towel and shoes out at the spectator area then go directly to the pool for your swim.  The run is done in bare feet. To keep things simple there is no shoe transition.  Year 2 children leave for the start area once the first year 3 children have come through the finish. Leave clothing , shoes and a towel in the spectator area.  Walk to the pool via the senior playground (not the middle school door).

Instructions For Triathletes
All bikes and clothing for your swim, bike, run transitions need to be in place before 12.30pm on triathlon day.  Leave space between your bikes.  Lay all bikes on the ground.  Walk or jog with your bike in the transition zone (no biking).  Return your bike to the same place when your bike laps are finished.  Be careful at the bike crossing points - runners slow down and watch out for bikers.

PS. Have some extra clothing with you. You will have to wait about an hour for your race. If it is cold you don't want to be waiting in just your togs!

Middle School Triathlon
Swim 30m - Bike 1.5 km - Run 600m

Championship Event - Senior Triathlon
Swim 50m - Bike 2 km - Run 1 km

Transition Zone

All triathletes will be called up at the same time and asked to go to the pool.  The triathlon will begin once the duathlon is finished.
Triathletes do not compete in the duathlon as well.

Wear your house colours a hat and sunscreen.
Be ready to shout and cheer for your friends.
Bring your determination.

Canterbury Duathlon

Wednesday 15th May
A great sunny day for everyone who took part in the
Primary Schools Duathlon at Ruapuna Raceway.

Provisional Results
at the bottom of this posting

I think Luka Phillips was our best Ilam performance - he was 6th in the 9 year old boys race.

 Jemima, Lydia, Coll, Ben
Emica, Luka
Scarlett, Dana, William and Caleb

Over 750 children from Canterbury Primary schools took part.
Run 2 km - Bike 6 km - Run 1 km

  A Great Experience!

 Great Achievement

Special thanks to the parents that transported children to the event and looked after them while I was working in the bike transition zone.

Would you believe it?
Once we had packed away all the bike racks and all the children has gone, there where still about ten bikes left behind.
All too small for me!

Well done on your success everyone.

Duathlon Writing

I lined up on the green grass waiting to get into the cold pool. Soon I got in and I began to swim, I swam in freestyle. I had to do two laps of the pool then I jumped out and ran. I overtook some fast people on the way out and I followed some arrows to the field I did two laps of the field while overtaking some girls on my second lap. We got changed into our clothes and went to watch other people.

I enjoyed the Duathlon and afterwoods I felt that I could do it again.

Duathlon Writing

In the Big Duathlon we ran so fast even I could run past green tree's and bushes and even little he's, it was a nice very friendly breeze of two laps in the pool to keep us cool not seeing any wool, hearing friendly delight I swam with all my might!

Duathlon Writing

We did a Amazing Duathlon, the middles and juniors are swimming, running and people were cheering and yelling so loud it was amazing and the pool was a Swirl pool and people had to run and swim 2 laps

Duathlon Poem

Swimming, swimming with all my might
I felt as if I could swim all night!
Up and out of the freezing pool
Start running
I'm not a fool.
Past the playground, past the flags, past the line!
I came in second, oh what a big surprise!

My First Duathlon

We jumped into the cold pool and started to swim.

We jumped out really quickly, I was as warm as a cannon ball, and started to run on a big run around the field with my slippery feet leaving wet footprints across the school.

Lots of people were cheering for me.

It felt fantastic and really fun too.

Please note:
All our best efforts where made to make the timing as accurate as possible for this event.  In some cases the timing might not be as accurate as your own personal timings for your child.

What is important is that all placings are accurate.

Proposed Centrals Team - see above chart - blue highlighter
Proposed reserve team - pink highlighter
Confirmation based on swimming ability.

Centrals Selection
The selection of a team for the Centrals is based on the performance of any individual compared to their respective age group.

And - the philosophy of giving as wide a range of students the opportunity to represent their school.

Students and Parents - Please Note:
The swim for the Centrals Triathlon is a serious 75 metres of swimming in deep cold water.  This swim is a test of individual character as much as individual swimming ability.

Our school triathlon is a good indicator of our best runners and cyclists but it is does not provide an adequate challenge for the swim component when compared to the Centrals Triathlon.

Some children who performed well in our school triathlon might not be able to swim sufficiently well to  enter the Centrals.
